| surly cross check as everything bike part 27 | surly357 Apr 9, 2003 8:01 AM | | I keep reading that cross checks don't have braze ons. My '03 has rear rack/fender fittings, and front fender/non-lowrider rack fittings. Check out the Rivendell site for ideas on non-lowrider front racks. There is a 54cm single speed on ebay (SURLY CROSS CHECK!!!!) but I don't have the item # handy. It's an '03 also- should have the braze-ons. The buy it now price is insanely high but I don't remember seeing a reserve.......We also have 2 1x1s at home and are quite happy with all of them. |
| Not rack braze-ons. | flyweight Apr 9, 2003 2:01 PM | | What you're seeing are fender braze-ons, not rack braze-ons. Rack braze-ons are located the seatstays, about halfway between the seat tube and canti studs. Front rack braze-ons are located about halfway up the fork blades. A bike that has both rack and fender braze-ons will have 2 mounts at the dropouts and fork tips, not 1 mount like Surly.
You can mount a rack on a Surly but you need to use clamps which don't work as well (or look as good) as rack braze-ons.
Mounts or not, the Surly is still a great frame. |
| Not rack braze-ons. | surly357 Apr 9, 2003 3:16 PM | | As I said before, my'03 model DOES have rear rack fittings on the seat stays. Opinions on the value of lowrider mount front racks vary, hence the Rivendell reference. |
| Same here | KEN2 Apr 9, 2003 7:20 PM | | I have an '03 CrossCheck and yes, it too has both rear rack and fender braze ons (and yes I know the difference!). |
