New XTR with STI(3 posts)

New XTR with STIroadboy
Apr 2, 2003 3:42 AM
I was contemplating putting the new XTR rear der on my cyclocross bike. I work at a shop, and acording to shimano tech the new XTR der will work with Ultegra sti only the buttons will be reversed since the spring is reversed. this seems okay and would only take a little time to get used to. I was just wondering if anyone else has already done it and if they like the results.

Haven't tried it yet but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The RapidRise and conventional derailleurs both use the same MTB shift lever and since the conventional derailleurs work with the road STI then it stands to reason the RapidRise should also work. I really don't see where anything would be gained. The new XTR rear derailleur isn't any lighter than the old one and I'm not convinced that RapidFire is better in the mud.

Thanks, I will probably use the old 9sp XTR der because it works so great, but i was curious if it would work with the new M960
