Front ring spacing?(3 posts)

Front ring spacing?outofthesaddle

I recently bought a used CX bike. The big ring on the front (48 Vuelta) was worn so I threw on a Shimano 48 that I had laying around. The spacing between the front rings seems too close. When the chain is on the small front, the chain contacts the big ring. Crank is Ultegra. What gives? Do I need different chain ring bolts - or spacers?
Dumb question? (nm)outofthesaddle

and since your outer ring is a Shimano on a Shimano crankset, I would think that you'd need to space the inner ring inwards a little bit. It's a trial and error thing and might be best done by a shop that has a spacer kit full of lots of different sizes of spacer so you can avoid ordering the wrong ones.
