Fork Rake Question(2 posts)

Fork Rake QuestionJames_M

I am switching out my fork on my Specialized hybrid frame (which is built up cross fashion) with a Kona P2 fork and was wondering how big of a difference 2mm of rake will make to the handling of the bike? The fork I have now has a 44mm rake and the Kona fork (as listed in the specifications for Kona's cross bike) has a 1.8" rake (45.7mm). I am assuming the fork I am getting ( 1 1/8, threadless, 700C P2) is the same as the one that comes on Kona's cross bike.

You most likely will not feel the difference. If you do, it will be a tad bit quicker in the steering at slower speed and a little more stable at high speeds, quessing at what your head tube angle is. Most production forks aren't welded 100% straight anyway, so either fork might be off a millimeter or two from spec.
