Im picking up a relatively inexpensive 2000 (I think its a 2000, its green) redline to use as a winter bike and Im thinking of putting a soulcraft convert chain tensioner on and running it single. anyone converted a redline? any thoughts on the chainline or any other reasons I should or shouldnt do this?

I did just that this past summer on a conquest pro. I used a shimano BMX cog ($5) with spacers on a reg shimano freewheel with a surly singlater. 109.5 BB with ultegra cranks and no problems. Try to get the singleater to push up. This keeps it tucked out of the way better than pushing down on the chain like a der. If the singleter hits anything, the chain can catch and either bend the singlater or your drop out. It happened to me!

Got tired of the singlater and got a new frame with horizontal drops and a hanger.

Another option would be the new White Ind eccentric rear hub. check the single speed MB for info.
