|I saw your post down below with the pics of your new Surly Cross-check and was wondering about how much the whole bike build cost you? I'm currently figuring out what frame to buy and which components to put on it and I really liked your build. Bike looks great. Have fun with it.

My bike cost me around $1200. I have quite a few connections so it cost me less than the average joe. I figured with all the parts at retail cost it would run around $2000, yes thats a hell of a lot for this build with such a cheap frame but of you go through any catalog and add it up it comes out to that much. My plan was to build it up with superb parts and then eventually get a custom frame. The surly frame is ok. I'll just say you get what you pay for. Fortunately the new fork and wheelset make it a smoother ride.

|Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to stay under $1500 for my 'cross bike. I'm really interested in two frames, one from True North and another from Gunnar. The only problem with them, which I could get if I go custom, is that they do not have rear disc tabs. I want to use the bike for both on and off-road and I think discs would be great for that. I might decide to pass on both of these bikes (and the good deals I can get on them) to get a frame with disc tabs. Decisions, decisions. Thanks again for getting back to me and enjoy the bike.
