|Canti vs. V-brakes...that big of a deal?||SJT|

|I've done some searching on this board on the subject of canti vs. V-brakes and what I understand the main difference is better mud clearance for canti's because they can be set-up further away from the rim and that V-brakes can have more power if the 'cross bike is used for other purposes, such as on the road. Is this the general consensus?
Would you buy a 'cross bike that does not have a canti brake arch forcing you to use V-brakes? How are those Diacompe rear brake hangers? Are they recommended or only a last resort for using canti brakes on such a frame? I'm looking to build an all-purpose bike so take that into consideration...not really planning on racing any time soon:) Any help would be appreciated.

|pretty much on it. vee power is more for long epic trail adventure riding vs road. long dirty downhills where you may need plenty of stop for long periods. Canti and vee bosses are the same so that's not really an issue. Race/Commute/Trail Ride on canti equipeed cx bike, am a big boy and haven't wished for vees yet. Not as big of an issue as most make of it.|

|The little cable hanger thingie that your talking about works fine. I have a Kelly Knobby X and it does not have a hanger with the frame. Hang one of these off the seat binder bolt and your all set.

That's the kind of information I was looking for. If I go with this frame it would be nice to know I can use either canti or V-brakes...and not be forced to only use V-brakes. Each has their pros/cons, but at least I pick which one fits my riding style best.

|QBP has them so your LBS can order them or...
Try a Google Search for "Dia Compe Hanger" and you'll find lots of other places..

|I like V's personally. To have very good stopping power in traffic is nice as it is in the dirt.|
|ANYONE running Disc up front with a Canti or V in the rear???||SJT|

|Just wondering. If I get a custom fork I could maybe get a disc tab welded on and run an Avid mechanical disc up front. I wonder how that would work? Would I need to run a V-brake in the rear to keep the lever feel similar? I know the front brake does most of the work anyway and with a disc I wouldn't need to worry about mud clearance, etc. Just wondering.
