I ride my cross bike on the road in winter, with guards and thin tyres. I only get of road occasionally.

Will a lower seat position be better for riding a quite technical cross course, does it give handling advantages?. Too low a seat on the road gives me back pain. Any suggestions?

I run just a tad lower on my cx than on my roadie. mostly it seems to make it easier to get on top of the seat if I find myself behind it on technical drops. It may be slightly better for handling, an aft position helps more IMHO. Shorter, Higher Stem with the saddle pushed back, also easier to bunny hop.
