Back to the devil Shimano...Farmpunker

People,
Well, my campy dreams have been put on hold. I found a pair of lightly used Ultegra shifters on ebay canada. 200 bucks Cdn. Not bad, I thought. This does make my life easier, too, now that I don't have to get a new set of wheels and can use my current Ds.
Question: can I use a triple front D to shift a double up front? Is it just a matter of setting the limits?
Now, if these shifters die (the seller says they come off a bike that was bought in the summer of '02), it will be full campy the very next day, I swear.
Time to find a fork\bar\stem and I'm almost ready to suit up. Right now I'm thinking Moto Ace Lap Bell, SUL Salsa stem and maybe a Kona Project 2 fork. Any suggestions?

get a Steelman or Vicious Cycles fork. if on a budget get a Kinesis. If the shifters die......hmmmmmm $800 or so for a Campy Gruppo and rebuild or $40 or so for barends. I was in the same dilemma this summer. I took the $40 option. Raced entire season on 2 bikes with barcons. Knee shifted once, missed STI accesibility about half a dozen times. Finished top 5 in my class
5 times beating guys riding STI and Ergo. Beat a group of them yesterday riding most of a lap (Bell) with a front flat (crashed twice). So don't think you NEED any of these things to have fun and do well. Spend what ya can, train hard and have FUN.

Answer: Yes, the Ultegra shifters are the same for doubles and triples.

Just set the limits and you should be fine...

Good enough for gov't work.

Call me an old roadie snob, but STI or Ergo is the way to go... (I actually prefer the Shimano devil)

I only like the devil because I mostly use MTB Parts (read durable, more reliable, abuser friendly). I run Campy (and love it) on the road. If any Campy reps want a 230 lb CX Gorilla to beta test their parts I'll volunteer myself. Please send me all I can break.
