anyone ever use flat bars on their cross bike

Yeah, I did on my Surly Cross-check. I didn't care for the handling, though. I had to run a 150mm stem to get the reach I was used to. I'd stick to a MTB for flat bars, unless you'd be using a flar-bar 'cross bike for commuting or something.

...did it for a while on a JTS, and it was terrible. It was too cramped to endure for more than an hour at a time, even with a ridiculously long stem, which made for very sloo-o-o-o-o-o-ow steering.

i have a bike with flat bars too and agree it feels a little funny. i think the only way to really do it right it to get a cross bike made for flat bars. ritchy mt cross or maybe the new surly create monkey????
