Fork and Handlebars trashed on my Jake...(6 posts)

Fork and Handlebars trashed on my Jake...EntityAT

My girlfriend just pulled into the carport at our house and forgot to remove my bike from the top of the car. Ooops. Bigtime. Anyway, the bike was a 1999 Jake the Snake, which had a Kinesis fork, I believe, and was all stock parts. She is offering to get the bike into a repair shop to get a new fork, handlebars, and if necessary, stem, etc., on it right away.

I'm not looking to upgrade at all, I just want a good quality bike like I had beforehand; anyone have a recommendation for a new fork, handlebars, etc.? I've been quoted that it'll cost about $200 for used stuff from a LBS, but was considering some other forks than the stuff they were pushing...

If you are interested email me at I probably have a Kinesis crosslight fork, bars, stem, etc to get you going again.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, for both of you (all three of you, if you count the Jake). Be sure to check the frame itself carefully, especially around the head tube; frames tend not to fare well in these kinds of accidents, so look for cracking at the welds or ovalizing of the head tube.

Sorry again & Good Luck!

I checked the frame fairly extensively, and didn't notice as much as a ding on it. The bike didn't exactly go very far before my girlfriend realized the problem and stopped the car immediately. She's crushed right now, because she KNOWS I love this bike - I'm doing everything I can to make sure that both my bike and her are ok. :)

I'll have my LBS check out the frame when I get the parts to put on it, but it really seemed to be fine; I looked at everything I could yesterday, and the bike wasn't that bad. I'll see if I can post some pictures of it this weekend.

Good News! (& again, Good Luck!) (nm)triangleforge
