|Switch cables or dismount on right side?||TWD|

|Ok, I have a question that's been eating at me for a while.
So, tradition says that cx racers run their brakes reversed (left lever controls rear brake) in order to gain control on the dismounts.
My cx bike came with the cables routed in the standard fashion (left lever controls front brake)and I never had the nerve to swap them over.
My fear is that I've been programmed to brake a certain way from mountainbiking for almost 15 years and road riding for almost 10 years. I'd hate to be in a panic situation and hesitate to think which brake to grab, or worse, grab the wrong one.
Is this a real concern, or is it pretty easy to remember which bike you are on and what brake to use?
I'm left handed so I like having the added control and strength of having my left lever operate the front brake.
I didn't seem to have any problems checking my speed on dismounts this season using the front brake either.
Here's the other thought I had. During a couple of races this year, I ran into sitations where dismounting on the left was difficult (off camber hairpin turns etc..). I almost instinctively dismounted on the right to deal with it. Afterwords I thought, dismounting on the right should give me more control of my speed into the barriers with the rear brake.
Would dismounting on the right anger "Pinchflat"
and "DNF" the all-powerfull gods of cyclocross? Am I asking for trouble?

|tradition? i see more regular (i.e. left = front) than the other way. It's what you are used to. I came from Oz and all bikes down there are upside down also (i.e. moto style, left = rear). I bought a bike here and left it the way it was, just got used to it being the other way around. I like to have all my bikes the same way.
As for dismounts, go whichever way is best for you to take the dismount, some barriers are better taken from a right side dismount, i.e. those around right hand turns.

|we've had races this year where rt. dismounts would be good. the only danger is in getting a nasty chainring bite to the leg with a right dismount. I dismount classic (left) brakes set up "standard" and have no trouble. (yet)|| |
