Larry put on a good show. It was fast. A lot big ring crankin'. Good barrier placement. You could just fly through them. There were some technical decents and steep run-ups.

I just wish we had at least one more race out there.

I was bummed I couldn't go, but my job demanded my attention. Was it a good turnout? 100, 200 riders? How many women? How did you end up?

Yes, I hope the whole Park District 'thing' gets worked out; in speaking with Mike at Kegels I got the feeling that the shop would like to have more input - something about Larry being 'out of town most of the year' (odd, I know!) so he isn't right there to be available.

Rockford is quite a cycling center - the ABR races, Rock Cut mtn bike events. If the local Chamber of Commerce can be sold on it that could help. But, I know it's all politics. Hope for the best!

I didn't see the women's race. I don't think there were that many, 10 if that. There were less than 20 in the masters. I think 38 in the B's and about 22 or 23 in the A's. So maybe 80-85 total entrants. Not that great of a turnout, but I'm sure the holiday weekend had a lot to do with it.

I did the B race. Had a great start. But after crashing twice in the first lap, that took me out of top contension. When I was upright though, I felt great. With the time I lost intially though, I just couldn't seem to bridge back to the lead "group". I felt if we would've had one more lap, I could've closed in more. I actually wish the course was shorter so we could've hit the barriers more. That's where I made up the most time. (The weekly practice certainly paid off.)

Oh well, hopefully we can do it as a series next year. Back to base training in the meantime.

Glad to hear that the event was a good one. I spoke with Larry Swanson Mid-November and he mentioned that he took an extended MTB trip out west this past summer (Larry's a teacher so he has summers off... This might explain why Kegel's thought he was "gone" alot).

On Thanksgiving day I did an MTB group ride at Palos. Our group met up with an out-of-towner named Ramone who was in Chicago from Detroit. Ramone had heard about the CX race in Rockford and was planning on racing it. He was really fast at Palos and I would have thought he would have done well on a technical course like Rockford. He's on the Redline (Yellow Jacket, White helmet).

Anyone see this guy race?

Brought the Explosif instead of the cx. Weird riding without the leaves on bushes or trees. You can see things from the trails you usually don't see. Makes it a little more difficult without the usual markings I'm accustomed to. It was almost as if I was riding the trails for the first time.
