questions about new cx bikeSean OConnor

I've just gotten out for my first ride on my new cross bike. It's a Waterford with Ultegra components, except for an XTR crank. I've got several questions; first, the chainline seems too wide with the XTR BB; should I use the narrower Ultegra or Dura-Ace? Second, I have Ritchey rims, the Rockrims, which are pretty wide; what cross (or road) tires would you recommend for road training (or should I get another set of wheels)? Third, can you use a shielded brake cable (Avid Flak Jackets) with Paul Cross Levers? Should I get high end calipers (SRP) or just get V-brakes with Travel Agents? Thanks!

Yea go with a road BB. Ultegra / DA your choice and budget. I'd buy a second set of wheels Ult. or 105 on O/P's (again budget) and run whatever road tires you want. Switch them to knobs and use as back up on race days. You can use GoreTex cables if you want, I'm sure Flak Jackets would work as well. as far as brakes, if you are a traditionalist-luddite get canti's, if you don't care get Vees and T/As.
as far as cantis go, Spooky's and Froggleggs are good and affordable
