Ampitheater Of Pain #3 - Memphis, TN(13 posts)

Ampitheater Of Pain #3 - Memphis, TNmemphistrials
Nov 17, 2002 9:42 PM
Race #3 in the 7 race Ampitheater Of pain CX series was this morning, and yet again, the Memphis Cycling Association put on on heck of a good time disguised as a race.

I myself finished DFL, yet managed to still finish one place higher than last Sunday. This week's course exploited my weaknesses... Climbing. Much of the course was uphill, in soft squishy grass. I was quite happy to be in third place for a bit of the lead lap.

Pictures follow... I know some of the names now, compared to last week's post. ;)

Russ again, this time taking the more traditional route over a set of three barriers on a slight uphill.

Vivian Chwalinski (I believe from Little Rock, AR) is tougher than you. Probably. I mean I don't know you, to be honest.
Anyway, Vivian kicked butt in the Women's race, passing all the women AND C race riders on the first lap. THEN she raced in the A race, beating a few guys.

I was doing pretty good with the names... Surly guy here, just crossing the bridge and heading up the long 3 barrier run up.
I know Surly guy reads the board, so identify yourself! =)

Surly guy again, this time on a kind of off-camber type section of the course.

That's David Senter. He takes time off from paddling his kayak upstream on the Mississippi to do cyclocross.

You guys need some real barriers! Try 16 inchers, then it would truly be pain!
they don't need no steenkin' barrierslonefrontranger

I've seen pictures of riders struggling thru the Ampitheater for which the course is named. If you had to run up / through that, you'd soon change your tune :)

I've done races in mushy muddy grass on hilly courses, and believe me, any barriers are too many barriers in those conditions.
