CrossBlaster knob loss...(3 posts)

CrossBlaster knob loss...Farmpunker
Nov 7, 2002 9:59 AM
I just noticed that my rear CrossBlaster is losing some middle knobs. They aren't worn down, they are flaking off. I've had these tires for a month, have rode about six hours a week, and have raced four times on them. Is this normal? I'm running normal pressure, and am doing the usual dirt\gravel\road cross mix of terrain. Anyone?

My Hutchinson Pro tire is doing the same thing in the back. You have to remember that cross tires are soft compound, especially ones with aggressive tread, and really aren't meant to be ridden on the road. The knobs are designed to grip loose earth. When torque is applied to them on road, they slip ever so slightly and the rubber simply tears away.
Get some semi-slicks (I like the IRC Mythos CX) or a set of tires with a raised center section and keep the aggressive tires for raceday or riding in the woods!

yea you can rip those little buggers right off. Geax makes a good multi use tire.
