Salsa Bell Lap - Anyone use MTB Stems with...UTE

these?? I know, I know. They are two different sizes, but I'm wondering if the difference between the 25.4mm stem and the 26.0mm bar will make using a MTB stem impossible? Thanx folks!!

Dont do it man!!

I tried to fit my Azonic MTB stem and the stem only made contact with the bars at two points. Doing it up tighter was only going to bend the stem cap open. Somewhere something was going to fail, either the bars would have excessive pressure at one point and snap at some untimely moment or the stem or its bolts were going to deform out of shape and probably break also.

For the price of a cheap road stem you will save yourself a whole lot of hurt in the future. Your bars are worth saving and so are your teeth.

I'm running a Salsa Bell Lap with a Kore stem and I've had no problems for two years.

Well there you go, two years is a good run. Some stems seem to cope with being "opened up" a little. Metal does flex. But it's probably not "recommended procedure" and would surely void a warranty, should anything happen. I'm still happy paying $25 for peace of mind.
