Speaking of fast....Farmpunker

Third race of my cross life. Great course. The best so far. Fast, nice terrain, two good traction rich and steep run-ups, followed by the inevitable cleat clog cursing. Nice gravel downhill leading into run-up number one. Good sliding. A ditch jump. Awesome. I finished second to last again.
But, Morati, aka Jonny K, roasted the Master A competition by a full lap (and me by three laps). Dude, you were flying.
Morati was kind enough to show me some technique before the race started. The ditch jump, which was a narrow ditch crossing with a log placed as an obstable at the end of the cross (you know, down one side, speed, up the other, lift and clear), begging to be cleaned. I didn't, and didn't attempt the up and over. I figured that I'd be whipped and too tired to attempt a smooth move like that, so I ran the sucker each time (ran? maybe I should have said "ram", which was what happened lap #2). Thanks, anyhow, Morati, for the advice.
It was nice to meet someone from the forum, especially someone as open and helpful as Morati. Now if some of his speed rubs off...
Farmpunker, aka, Nathan.
PS, sorry about not giving my congrats after the race, Morati, but I had a couple friends with me and they were cold. Wimps. The funniest part was when I finished and got back to my truck. They asked a single question: "Why are you doing this?" Answer is simple. Because.

Thanks for the kind words Farmpunker. I agree with your assessment of the course, it was awesome. You'll enjoy the Aurora course as well. If you bring your buddies they'll be able to see 90% of the lap from one of the spectator areas. If there is anything I can do to help out whether it be with equipment or just some advice let me know. John K.

Just wanted to ask a question, how did you get into Cyclo Cross? Were you a mountain biker or road cyclist? Just wondering. Props to morati & all the others who launched over the log at the ditch. Fine entertainment :)

Neither, in a competitve sense. I've mountain biked for the past three years, but purely for fun. My main reason for trying cross is to put something competitive back into my life. I used to run track, play football (best sport ever for participation), and so on, but then came university and I stopped all that fun for school concentration. Then I graduated and decided that there was no more use in continuing onto a Masters and so forth, or another grad school or postgrad, so I went back to my roots and became a farmer. Only thing is, this leaves me zero time and energy in the spring and summer for much of anything. I read about cross in Dirt Rag. Researched the idea, and went for it. Now I'm getting my ass kicked and loving it.

Thanks for the feedback. Keep up the good work and have fun! Cross is the best race to watch for sure.
