Looking For Good Inexpensive Cyclocross Shoes. Need Help!Hop Sing

Hi all,

I'm looking for a good shoe for cyclocross and winter road training rides. I have narrow feet and will be using the shoes with Crank Bros. Egg Beater pedals. I would like to spend less than $100 on them. Water repelency isn't too big a deal to me as I'll employ some coated nylon covers for wet road rides. Even with these criteria there seems to be a lot of choices. I'm not a Mountain Biker and I've never purchased this type of shoe before and would like suggestions to help focus my search.

Some shoes I've tried on and/or am interested in:
1. Shimano M152: sole too stiff for running during 'cross?
2. Answer Speedsters: laces & velcro straps seems good for 'cross
3. Diadora Piccante & Habanero: haven't tried on any Diadoras yet, but have heard they run narrow. How stiff are the soles?
4. Sidi Rampa: haven't tried these on yet, but I like my Sidi road shoes. Might be too expensive.

Any other ideas or considerations I should be aware of? Thanks a lot for the help.

Nashbar had Diadora cobras on sale for under $70. I got a pair and love them. The sole has some flex compared to others(good for cross) and they take spikes if needed. All around comfortable shoe. Sizes were rather limited.

Specialized website always has shoes on sale at good prices. I've also found that their shoes are not quite as narrow as some typical MTB shoes (ie - SIDI, Shimano, etc.)

any of those would probably work. I steer away from Sidis as they tend to not be good running shoes. Try the shoes on and run a bit in them. make sure the sole is grippy for wet dismounts and such. I run both Lake and Specialized shoes to good luck. don't choose a real road like stiff sole.

I really like my Lake shoes. They were very cheap and have done well over the last year. D.K.
