Week up to the race, what's your training and preparation if any?

I have my usual mid-week afternoon off road or mtn bike ride. Couple evenings I spin on a trainer for about an hour. Day before the race the usual Saturday road or afternoon mtn bike ride.

when you are my size, you have to train that hard to avoid TOTAL embarrasment. If some of my smaller riding buddies had my training ethic they'd probably be A's. I work my ass off just to keep up. oh yeah and I do enjoy the piss out of it. Gonna kill some people tomorrow in the AM crit. Flat course and I got a BIG ENGINE.
good luck!weiwentg

I hate flat courses ... I finished midpack on my second cross race, and the course was TOTALLY flat. plus there were a LOT of good racers, and I was using Michelin Muds on a grassy course with no mud. and I'm a tad over half your weight.
anyway, go wipe the floor with everyone!

thanx, was fun. cloudy, south wind, right off the Ocean, made me feel like I was racing a Dutch or Belgian classic. Guys were whining about the wind, slight downhill before finish 1K, I left them there and never looked back. My hammies are on fire. Just found out first race (CX) is Sunday. I'm doing a hilly metric century Saturday, I'm so going to suffer. Better start my taper.
I actually did a 4.5hr century before an MTB raceweiwentg

it wasn't horribly hilly, though. you should be OK if they don't go TOO fast. congrats about the race!

hell now that's impressive. 22.2 mph average, nice work, and then race. sheesh I'll quit whining now. I think I'll be fine. Going to cruise the metric with some friends who aren't that fast. Hopefully have some pop for the race, but hell I'm just funnin' anyway.

Off-season for me- so weightlifting 2x a week, spinning rides 2-3 times a week, and one cyclocross skills session. No intervals, no hills, no intensity except the races and brief "pushes" during the cross skills drills. Racing once a week is enough intensity for me this time of year- but I'm an old dude.
