Silly Rabbit Cross Series Starts Sunday in St. Louisrichpierce

Looks like it's going to be a muddy season opener in St. Louis. About time- we had a dry and warm season last year- almost zero suffering except the usual "if this race lasts any longer at this pace I'm gonna die" sort of thing.

it's a great and fun series- will post some stuff Monday, but hope some of y'all could come and join us!

Do they alter the Queeney Park course week by week? I don't think I'll ever forget that hill. Paved, then false flat, then soft gravel through the parking lot. It was murder on the single speed.

The courses do change some every week Alex. The week you raced last year was the only one with that climb. In fact, this year a few of the races may not be at Queeny so if you are coming to town I'd pay attention to the bigshark website for updates. You finished just ahead of me last year. Hope you can make it over to one or two races.

Here's a pic of your favorite hill. Looks flat in the pic but you know better.

What are the other locations under consideration? Isn't there a state championship race in Forest Park at some point?

Incidentally, I'm coming down to St. Louis on the weekend of Nov. 9. I'll be in an Alberto's jersey. Say hello if you see me.

Next week's race will be at Sioux Passage Park in north St. Louis County- supposed to be a low-traffic park so no pedestrians and poodles! less "collateral damage"!

First race was a blast and very fast, just a couple of sticky spots, no real mud. The 1,2,3 race came down to a 3-up sprint, very hotly contested, with several failed attacks etc. Great turnout and it looks like cross is growing in St. Louis. Far fewer MTBs- many racers who tried it last year bought cross bikes I guess. Some nice hardware out there. I like an Empella Pat Collier built up- new to me, white, sweet. However, I think I got max style points for my homemade fenders.

Everything I hear is that they won't allow a race in Forest Park. Maybe something is going on behind the scenes but I dont think so.

Other parks under consideration are Route 66 State Park in Eureka, and another park that butts up against it.

As soon as we hear about the race on the 9th, we'll post the info for you.

My girlfriend's been at Wash U. architecture for the past 3 and a half years, so I'm down there about once every two or three weeks. When she's at class I always drift over to Big Shark to poke around. She lives about two blocks east of the store in a big ugly tan apartment complex right behind Brandt's.

Anyway, this is her last semester, so I probably won't be coming down to St. Louis after this cross season. It's too bad, you guys have a great racing scene in the city. I remember seeing a crit on Delmar that had a DJ booming music during the race. I'd never seen anything like it.

I ride for Big Shark but don't work there.

Good to hear you've had a good time coming to town. Maybe you need to find another g/f here. :-)

I work at Wash U med School- Big Shark is a great shop and puts on the most races of any shop in the area.
