What all do I need other than tires - and a fork ?
Please any equipment suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

one guy was riding a Jamis Eclipse at the cross race I just did, with 25mm knobblies. he survived.
however, had that been a 'true' cross course, he would not have. this one was basically a grass crit.
depending on the road bike, your steering angle will be too sharp. you almost certainly don't have cantilever posts, which means a caliper brake on the rear with a skinny tire, which is not necessarily good.
of course, if the local cross courses are grass crit-type courses, then you just need tires. you could change the fork and put a front cantilever on. you could also change your large chainring to a 48 or 46. I suppose that would be the bare minimum.
now, the more experienced crossers will step in ...
