Any word on the Conti Explorer tires?(3 posts)

Any word on the Conti Explorer tires?Alex-in-Evanston

I'm looking for a knobby to race on this year and the Michelin's are just a bit too wide for my chainstays. Does anybody know how the Conti's measure out? They're listed at 32mm.

Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Not as wide a casing as Michelins, but very aggressive knob profile that makes 'em still fairly wide. The tread pattern is also quite tall, which makes them very good in soft, deep loamy type dirt, but damn squirrely on hard-packed trails, and downright spooky on pavement. I use them in races/areas where the course is particularly soft.

If you're looking for a thinnish cross tire with a lower treat profile (better for all-around riding, IMHO)check out the Panaracers or Vittoria's on cyclocrossworld.com.

I just found a set of Panaracer Cross Blasters while cleaning up our shop. Seems a customer special ordered them but never picked them up. Claimed weight is 280g which makes them pretty light. The tread pattern is also very wide open and looks ideal for cross (reminds me of Vittoria's but square knobs). I am itching to give these a try...
