anyone have a Specialized s-works cross frame?jchristopher

I just bought an older (2000 model year, I believe) Specialized S-works CX cyclocross frame. It is red in the back, with black in the front and a black fork.

If anyone has one of these, I would appreciate it if you would post. I am having trouble determining the right seatpost size (seems like it must be 27.0?) and also I need to know if it is supposed to take road (130mm) or mt. (135mm) hubs.

Also, any comments from anyone in general about these frames? I guess they stopped making them...

I have a 2001 model but I would be almost certain that it is 130mm hubs and a 27.2mm seatpost. That's what mine is. If you have trouble with it, call Specialized, they should know.

have 2000. 27.2 and 130 (road) spacing. Have it , ride it, love it.
get a thompson post or if you're a flyweight, weight weenie Easton and Syncros make Carbon 27.2's. Buy some Ultegra or 105 huns on O/P or MA3's. (unless you are going campy) www.jensonusa.com has some great deals on wheels.

one of the smoothest aluminum frames I've ridden and the red and black of 2000 is way sexier than the 2001-2002's
What!! no way, red and white is WAAAAYclimbo

Yeah, 27.2 seatpost won't go in. It's weird (I've tried two) and a 26.8 is too loose. That leaves 27.0, which is an oddball size for them to use.

weird. my 27.2 fits. I'll check my old catalog at home tonight. Contact specialized and take a good look inside that seat tube for clogs and or bends. you are using grease right?

Yeah, greased it and everything. Seat tube looks clean, but it won't even go in far enough for that to make a difference.

I would appreciate you checking out that catalog.
will do. nmatpjunkie

I have the same model. Want to buy another one? Seatpost size is 27.2. Rear spacing is either 130 or 135. They are stiff in a sprint and ride a little harsh and the front tire will hit your toes.

Thanks everyone for all the information!

Anyone care to elaborate on how they got their bike? Were they sold complete or also as a frame? Anyone know what the MSRP for the frame was?

got mine complete and new on ebay. wasn't originally sold as a frameset but whole S-Works bike. XTR/Ultegra equipped, S-Works (Hugi 240) hubs laced to Open Pros. Retail was about 2400 bones.

I traded a singlespeed mountain frame for mine. Sometimes I work at a shop that is heavy into CX. There's all kinds of dealing and swapping going on with the shop staff. Yeah they came as a complete bike. I think our model (black & red) came with XTR cranks and there was a small problem with the chainline. I seem to remember one of the mechanics reversing the spider to get a better chainline. It was a cool bike but I kind of didn't like the front tire rubbing my toes. It wasn't a problem with cross tires (30s or 32s) it was just a irritation. When I put big 42s on to go trail riding it became a problem. It handled real good, lots of fun in the twistys.
