Going from Road to CX bike. Advise?JR007

I'm currently riding an older lugged steel custom road bike, upgraded with full Ultegra 8-sp STI, Ultegra triple crank. I want to get a Cross bike for commuting, trails, and hopefully racing one day (if there's a Master's class!). I don't know a lot about Cyclocross, but some of the CX bikes I've looked at are spec'ed with Tiagra, with a bit of 105 thrown in. I'm thinking of putting the Ultegra on the CX bike and taking the road bike back to "old style" components. Is this advisable for a CX bike? Or should I stick with the stuff that comes with the new bike?

use that stuff, most cx bikes come with crap spec to keep the price down. when the 8 sp STI's die (they will) replace with 8 sp bar ends. Re-retro the oldie and use that Ultegra happily. Only thing you'll need are canti's
