|I am going to use my MTB for cross this season and was wondering what 26" tire would be recommended for this, Would a 1.4" slick work for dry hardpack courses? Is there any narrow tires w/ knobbys?
One more question, How much diffrence would I notice if I took off my suspension fork and traded it for a rigid? I have access to a variety of these from my LBS which has a throw away box from people up-grading to suspension forks.
Thanks, just trying to make my bike more cross ready.

|Continental makes a 1.5" tire and Ritchey also makes a narrow tire.
Switching forks for cross season is probably a good idea. Get a second headset that's identical to the one already installed on your bike. This saves you from removing the lower race (which if you do more than a few times will eventually wear out the race and/or steer tube)

|Ritchey Cross bite 26x 1.4 $19.99 ea |
Geax Revert 26x 1.65 $16.95 ea.
Avocet Cross II 26x 1.25, 1.5 $19.95 ea.
My girlfriend runs the ritchey cross bite 1.4's on a aegis MTB single speed w/ rigid fork, good on dry trails.
