|I am building up a new Cross rig and have a BB question. I plan on running a RaceFace MTB Crankset without the granny. Not sure what length spindle to go with. my initial thought was the old standard 110mm. Anyone help me with this?? - Thanx|

|I run a RaceFace double setup with a DA front derailleur. If you want to use a road front der then you will need a 103mm BB spindle due to the limited range of the road derailleur.
103mm tapered BBs are someone rare these days. I use the 8spd cartridge DA BB available at Excel Sports. Act soon because who knows how much longer these will be produced.
Note: Campy has 102mm BBs but the tapers are not the same degree as the ISO RaceFace/Shimano tapers. In other words, don't use a Campy BB spindle with RaceFace or Shimano tapered cranks.

|I just built up my Kona Jake with Capy Centaur. I noticed, however, that the inner chainring is a little closer to the chainstay than I'd like -- it's about 3-4mm from the stay. It doesn't rub, and the bike is pretty stiff down there, but am I asking for trouble? It's a 111mm spindle, and I think Campy only makes a 115 mm spindle for triples. I'm not averse to getting another BB if necessary, but am I just being neurotic, or is this going to be a problem?|

|I would be a little concerned that the longer spindle MIGHT make the space between the BB shell and the crank arm just big enough to get your chain caught between the two if you drop a chain. That COULD take a long time to untangle if that were to happen. Long enough to take you out of the race.|| |
