| My build my GF a 'cross bike project | Velocipedio Jun 7, 2002 5:01 PM | | As some of you know, my GF is very hot to get into cyclocross [she's a roadie], and I thought It'd be nice to build up a bike for her. [I'm very lucky to have a partner who shares my passions... now if I can only get her to buy me a vintage Colnago... :D]
This project dovetails quite nicely with my plan to changeover the components on my Major Jake to Campagnolo 9-speed; I can use the current components to build up her bike.
I'm posting this because I'm sort of thinking out loud, and I wouldn't mind some input on something... My LBS tells me that they can get me an old inventory 49 cm Jake the Snake frame and fork [her size... she tried a 49cm there] for $450 Canadian [that would be about $300 US]. I like the Jake, and I think it would make a very nice bike to build up.. and this sounds like a pretty good price.
The frame, I'm told, is black. So... does anyone know what year this was [I suspect 2000], and whether there would be any geometry differences from the current Jakes? [I suspect not.] |

Geometry hasn't changed, at least up through 2001. ...and let's face it--that's one of the 3 or 4 best-looking 'cross frames ever. |
