Just blowing off steam, but does anyone have or had problems with Shimano`s 8spd barend shifters?? My last RH shifter lasted several months and the latest one lasted less than a mile. From an 8spd to a 4spd. I still haven`t gotten the first one back from shimano( no supply in the US warehouse). Come monday morning they are not going to like me very much!

Only problem I ever had with 'em was that I got kneecapped pretty regularly...mechanically they've been bomb-proof, going on five years now.

I had one set of 8-speed barcons give up the indexing ghost, but after several years and a fair amount of switching back and forth between index and friction modes. I have others (8 and 9 speed) still going strong.

Don't lose the rubber covers on the levers - these are not available for purchase from Shimano - apparently they do not make enough of these to support a supply of spare parts and pieces.
