what steel frames are their besides surly and gunnar. I had to sell my surly frameset to afford my road bike, now I miss my surly very much. (sobbing noises in background). I vastly prefer a steel ride and was curious what my options where. remember, I'm on a college student budget, lower cost are preffered. also e-shopping sites, I try to shop exclusivly at my LBS Rock and Road here in da "Fort".

Soma Fabrications seems to come up alot when talking about steel frames. Prices are in the ballpark with Surley.

search ebay and the classifieds here. I always see great steel bikes and or frames for sale. You can probably find a Salsa La Cruz, Independent Fab, LeMond Porpad, Gunnar Crosshair, or Soma for a good price. All these are fine steel rides and usually can be had fairly cheap if you shop well. I built up a full hi zoot race bike from ebay purchases and kept it around a grand. (and I have 2 frames)
look through the classifieds here I always see great deals on whole bikes and/or frames.
