has anyone used these brakes? They are only 34.95 for the set (f and r) at excel sports and look alot like the Paul's and SRPs - I've currently got XT cantilevers on my ride (Voodoo Wazoo) and am wondering if these redline brakes would be an improvement? See the brakes at

Thanks Adam

if you've got the old deore xt canti's they won't be an improvement other than being able to use v-brake pads and being easier to adjust. if you've got the more modern low profile stx-like canti's they would probably be a big improvement although I've heard some complaints about the stock pads (still you can use v-brake pads so the adjustment benefit is there if/when you change). they are kinda cheap looking from the back and side, but even then several racers used them at the recent worlds. give 'em a shot, they are only $35

If you get them, straight off replace the brake pads the stock ones are super hard and feel awful

You will need to play around with the height of the cable carrier to find the feel you like but they are not bad and there are more choices in brake pads for them. As for the stock pads they do suck, they tend to smear the compound on the rim wearing down quickly(also don`t stop too well). I personally use WTB razor dual compound pads with good success.

They're good brakes, especially for the price. We've used them on a lot of cyclocross bikes we've sold. The pads are crap (what do you expect for $35??)

If you've got the last generation of low profile XT's I'd stick with them. I've got a set of XT's on my personal cross bike and they work better than the Radius brakes.
