|Just some CX ride picts from last weekend.
Most of the snow is off the ground in Illinois leaving the singletrack a muddy mess. I thought that I would take the CX bike out for a little doubletrack action around Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve. As you can see from this shot skiers, hikers, and others have compressed the snow into a sheet of ice that blanketed the trail anyplace it was shady.
Suprisingly 700x30c tires find traction anywhere available on the icy trail. Kudos for Michelin Mud tires.
The trail takes you through some pretty diverse habitat. Here is a small marsh that laps up to the edge of the trail.
On a hill you overlook the I&M Canal that connects Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. No barge traffic today...
Towards the end of my ride there is a nice waterfall that the forest preserve gets its name from. In the summer I'd dip my feet in the water to cool off.
