Project 2 forks were 1" up through the '99 model year.

I have one on my Kona that I am going to trash as soon as I find something decent. It has very little mud clearance, and I have to deflate my front tire to get it past the brakes (they are 40c tires, but still...) It would probably work okay as a touring fork, though.

eh, after quick-releasing your brakes, even? of course, my 'cross tires (stock Michies that came with Jake) are 30c

So that's the trick! No, I have only had the problem with the 40c tires. 35s will barely squeek by. Saw an interesting solution by team Mongoose, which was to cut off the rear half of the brake pads so they don't contact the fork. How that will work on a long downhill I don't know...
