My Redline Conquest came with Radius brakes with Sora levers. They feel mushy and weak compared to my road and mountain bikes. Is this "just the way it is" or are improvements possible? I have an old set of Shimano LX cantis sitting around - would they be any better? Thanks.

I bought a pair of these brakes last year. I used them for 2 months until I decided I wanted to stop, so I took them off and put my STX canti's back on. I know many people have posted on this site that the Radius brakes worked well for them. I changed the pads as recommended.

I think it had something to do with cable angles and I probably could have gotten them to work better, but as soon as I put my low dollar canti's back on, they stopped great. I used Cool Stop pads on my canti's, but the Red Ritchey Pads work realllly well.

Based on my experience, I would put the LX canti's on your bike and forget about it. I plan to keep mine on.

One Tip - - - - the canti's "feel" best with STI levers when you use the strongest spring tension (IE, the top hole).

Good Luck
