What's the freakin' deal? Every room in town is booked Feb 1-3. Any alternative towns nearby WITH rooms?

That's not good, my wife and I are going over and we've yet to book a room. I tried emailing the Hasselt-Zolder tourism office in hopes of finding a small family run place to stay with no response.

so if you are in fact the original poster and can't own up to your own handle, F off !! Don't ask for any advice and don't think you are the be all and end all of know-it-alls on this forum.

Have you been there? If you are so cool to have been, why do you have to ask advice on the forum?

So you coming over to euro land for the worlds, wanna see Daphne van de Brand in real life. You once, long time ago, asked me to try to get you an autograph, remember. Didn't get it but I did get a real nice pic of her :).
Anyway try this website , it's the official site try emailing them for any suggestions for any hotels in the area. Or the UCI site also has some info on hotels

Hope this helps. Will search for the pic and post it soon.

Hey Setzer,Wayne

If we stayed in Antwerp, do you think it would be any problem getting a bus to Zolder and back?
Hey Wayne( loads of info, long),Setzer
Dec 12, 2001 11:53 AM
don't know about a bus going there but I found this piece of info on

"Circuit Zolder is situated near the intersection of the E313 (Antwerp - Liège) and E314 (Brussels - Aachen) highways, at hardly 1 km of exit 27 and at less than 100 km of Antwerp, Brussels, Liège, Aachen and Eindhoven. Moreover, Circuit Zolder disposes of a registered heliport."

Maybe you could rent a car, I would take an hour to get there. Plus you could stay in The Netherlands(Maastricht or Eindhoven) or Germany(Aachen). This would increase the amount of hotels you could stay in.

Also on the topic of lodging:
"Where are you planning to stay during the World Championships Road Racing 2002 - in a hotel, holiday villa or youth hostel, or are you camping?
For information and to make reservations (press also), contact the official reservations centre:
De Boeck Incoming & Events
Tel.: + 32 (0) 2 274 23 80
Fax.: + 32 (0) 2 201 05 76
E-mail: "

Also check out the website:
It holds loads of info in and it is in english. Or drop them a mail.

How long and when were you planning to come over?
On the 27th of January there's SuperPrestige race in Heerlen , The Netherlands. That's very close to Begium, interested? Two races in one week.
Anyway, hope this helps you and bn also on the eurotrip.

We're arriving on Friday the 1st and leaving the following saturday. Except for the first weekend we're planning on spending our time in Amsterdam. I've checked out the website and got their list of hotels but it seems like everything in Hasselt is booked, I've looked into some other places not far (< 25 km) but too far to walk and we are trying to avoid renting a car since that would be expensive. Thanks for your help.
are all the six days over with? (nm)bn

Hope you can make it and find a hotel. Amsterdam is cool aswell, I prefer Rotterdam, The Hague but The Netherlands is small so you can travel everywhere pretty fast.
Let me know if you can make it.

Oh, we're coming...Wayne
Dec 13, 2001 10:52 AM
we've already got the plane tickets, it's just a matter of finding a place close to Zolder or further away and possibly renting a car.
yup, I rememberbn

BTW, seen those sites- thanks. I e-mailed deboeck and they haven't replied.

Made a bunch of reservations... just outside Hasselt, another in Genk, and one right at the course. I'd like to stay in Hasselt city center if possible. Maybe stay at Heusden-Zolder Sat. Any recommendations? Pretty convenient to get to Genk and Hasselt, but I think Hasselt would be more interesting than Genk. Also, how's the language thing? I know some French, and will try to pick up on Dutch in the next month or so. I'm afraid my Italian won't help unless I run into Pontoni.

Daphny is kicking a this year- she's my prediction. Bessette might surprise though. I am also predicting a Belgium man, but they are all racing pretty well right now. I guess it will depend on who's on form.
Here it is...Setzer

Finally I got it and scanned it directly. The pic was taken on the Dutch Championship in Pijnacker in 2001. It was freezing there was ice on the water, it was muddy and very slippery. She was leading the race from the start till finish. She also crashed into a fence BTW. She Is now riding for the Farm-Frites Hartol team and riding a very cute, small little Koga-Miyata bike. When you see her at the worlds you'll see what I'm talking about.
gotta love a muddy girl!bn

I've seen some other pics, some from last month's SuperPrestige. I like the red/white/blue DNC jersey.

Any thoughts on Genk vs. Hasselt (outskirts) vs. Heusden-Zolder?

I took the pic on the day she was going to earn that same DNC jersey :). It was one of the best pics of that weekend, the Elite mens race was the day after that but it wasn't a very good day, bad light and the temprature was below freezing point, really cold!! I think you can get the DNC jersey if you want, I'll ask at my work on saturday, I work at bikeshop and our shop jerseys are made at the same company as the DNC jersey. The orange, national team, jersey ( as worn by her on your pic ) isn't a problem I'm quite sure you can get them.
Let you know on this asap.

I think she will make it at the podium, not sure for the first place but she in very good shape at the moment.
For the men don't forget about Groenendaal, not good at the moment but he's focusing at the worlds I heard somewhere. Also Nijs has a good shot at the top honors.

About Genk vs. Haselt, I have no idea maybe you can hook up with Wayne on this, he seems to have worked things out and gathered ssome info on places to stay, or email the organisation. i can't help you on this.

When are coming,(are you coming over?), and how long are our planning to stay?

Dec 13, 2001 12:09 PM
Hopefully the Belgian men won't be pulling a squadra azzuri and racing against themselves again like in 2000! A clean sweep is not out of the question. I'm pulling for little VDB for gold, but I think Bessette is the sleeper. Would be cool to go silver, bronze, gold in three successive WCs at the tender age of 23.

I think I am going to stay in Hasselt... Genk seems more industrial from what I've read. And there seems to be nothing near the hotels at the track. Plus, the UCI HQ hotel is in Hasselt and I'm sure many of the teams will be as well. If I get tired of walking I can rent a car there too. Will be there 01-Feb and leaving 04-Feb... a very short trip but fares are too cheap to pass up.

I can't see myself wearing a NC/NT jersey... but tell me about your shop's. Do they have a website?
how about a Team Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon jersey?bn

from cyclingnews:

Daphne van den Brand to Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon

Daphne van den Brand will start this Sunday's Cyclo-cross World Cup in Wortgem-Petegem in a Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon team jersey. The national champion is transferring from Farm Frites-Hartol to its sister team, that is also part of the Rotterdam Cycling group.

Van den Brand turned professional in September 1999, and won eight races in 2001, including the Dutch national cyclo-cross championship. With Team Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon, Van den Brand will be able to concentrate on her specialty, which is cyclo-cross.

Team Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon will officially be known from January 2, 2002 as Team Ton van Bemmelen Sports-Novilon. It will be strengthened by Bik rider Wendy Kramp and Soraija Bartels. Leaving the team are Andrea Bosman, Laura Verhoeven, Sabrina Raaymakers and Vera Koedooder.

Check out this page:

Those girls are wearing the Team Ton van Bemmelen-Novilon shirt. I know one of them, she worked in our shop this summer. I don't think you can get them though.
About my shops jersey, I'm trying to find a good pic of it.
We do have a website but it's not in English and not working as it should. We're updating and redesigning it at the moment.

Maybe I'll go worlds myself, only the mens race though,
but I'm not sure, it's a long traintrip. I think it will be broadcasted by the Dutch or Belgium live aswell.

yeah, found that link after I posted... not a real exciting jersey. Also found some shops to visit in the area via the phone book. Do alot of shops sponsor clubs/teams over there?
