Hi there, I have a frame with 130mm (road) dropout spacing, but have my eyes on a lovely set of cross wheels that have a 135mm (mountain) axle. Is it possible to swap out that 135mm axle for a 130mm one that will fit my frame? What about just filing down the 135mm one..it's just 5mm right? or is it? I am wondering if this would screw up my chain line. If it is just any easy axle swap, can anyone clue me in as to where to find a 130mm axle? thanks.

it's not the axle that matters, it's the width of the hub that is 5mm too wide. If the wheels are new, can they be built with a road hub instead? If used and a bargain, you could buy them and have the hub swapped out by a shop.

what brand hubs are you dealing w/????
shimano hubs have spacers that can be files down to make up the 5mm.
I have seen this done, it works well.

your lbs can order an axle from qbp or they might have one in the junk hub box.....
