chain drop woes(4 posts)

chain drop woesmw

Did my first Cross race ever- in the C's. Loads of fun- lots of mud. But, I fell twice, and both times, the chain dropped off. I would have won (as opposed to taking 2nd) if I never had any chain issues.

1) Because the chain dropped, the protector didn't prevent it from coming off (it's a rubber finger-like piece that lies flush with the chain when in the small ring)

2) Because the chain dropped, the protector prevented me from getting the damn thing back on quickly.

Any thoughts- any other chain protectors that I should use?

Thanks in advance

When I started racing cyclocross I would drop my bike as opposed to gently placing it on the ground when mounting causing my chain to frenquently come off. You may also want to check you chain length, you may need to remove a link or two.

I have been using a Third Eye chain guide on both of my bike for several seasons with no problems. Just be sure it is mounted close and high enough to the inner ring so if the chain does come off it does not wedge between the guide and the chainring. Congrats on the 2nd place!
