Brake Conversion Question(2 posts)

Brake Conversion QuestionJMD

I have an older SLX road frame which I had converted to singlespeed (took off the braze-ons and derailer mounts). I have been having a blast riding this thing everywhere, but I made one BIG mistake. I should have had the builder add canti bosses. - I need help - For the front I will need to get a new fork I assume. (anyone know of a decent cromo canti fork in a one inch?) For the rear, can I just hammer out the chainstays a few mm and add canti bosses without repainting the whole frame again or is it possible to use a skinny tire that will barely fit inside my rear dual pivot brake? Please help!

I don´t see the point. Why not get a cheapo no-name alu cross frameset? Maybe if you say you crashed your 'other one', a large bikebrand may supply you with a new hybrid frameset for very few money. I guess that would work much better than a beat up, hammered out road frame.
