|Anyone get to the Breckenridge CX series on 9/22??||Cima|
Sep 23, 2001 9:39 AM
|Hello everyone, |
I was wondering if anyone made it to the Breckenridge CX series either as a competitor or as a spectator? I was going to go, but time constraints caused me to only be able to catch the open race at the end of the day. How was it? Was it a challenging circuit on Peak 8? How tough did the altitude make the racing?
Thanks for the recap!! Hope you all had a great weekend!

|I looked at the idea of driving 2+ hours to watch only the Open race, and I decided it was not worth it. I am really bummed I missed it, but there were other things I needed to do around the house that took precidence in the afternoon. I think the next racing in the series is the Southern Colorado CX. I'd like to get there and watch. |
Sorry I could not provide highlights, but I promise next time I will.

|My original post does indicate I watched the Open race, but my poor writing skills caused this deception. |
My appologies for any confusion.

|I made it out to watch the SM 3s and to race SM 4s. It was a nice, fast, flat course with four running sections. I would say that the course was around 2.5k long. The altitude did not affect me too much, but was certainally noticable. There were enough technical/singletrack sections to allow for some recovery before the all out runs, and climbs. The race was very well organized, and it seemed that everyone had a great time. I too will be at the SoColo kickoff next weekend in the Springs. Hope to see you there!|

|Currently, I cannot get any information about where the SoColo CX series is located in the Springs. ACA's racing page is unavailable right now. I use to live in the Springs when I was in college, so I know the city well. Can you tell me where the racing will be located? |
See you in the Springs!!

|I hate it because I am so completely bad at it because I am so bad at it, it's a huge challenge so I can't not do it.
I raced the SM4 race. I was doing great until the big run up. My foot got caught in my pedal while attempting to dismount and landed on my face. I went from top 10 to almost dead last immediately. Luckily there was a guy racing on a bike like my mom's 3 speed, I think it was even a Free Spirit. The bad part was it took me a half lap to drop the guy.
The course wasn't on peak 8 it was just east of the Nordic Center through an area that was being prepared for a new housing development. The hardest part was the big run up. The trail leading into it was soft and deep and really sucked your momentum, then the run up was fairly steep and about 50 long. Even the Open class guys were sucking wind at the top of that. Overall the race organization was great! The course was well thought out and marked. They even provided bagels, cookies and gatorade after the race.
It couldn't tell you who won what but I think Todd (or Tom) Wells (mt biker dude from team Mongoose)won the open.
