Tire choice - Western NC(4 posts)

Tire choice - Western NCAdam

Hey - looking to do a couple of cross races this season for the first time and trying to decide on tire choice - bike is Voodoo Wazoo (older sweet 853 model) and I've got a brand new pair of Vittoria Mastercross kevlar clinchers 700x27 I think (bought on sale and haven't tried yet) as well as a fat pair of Panaracer Smokes in 700x45 - they're as knobby as an MTB tire and fit no problem in the chain/seat stays. Racing in central and western North Carolina - any suggestions between these two tires? Or is some other better for this terrain - if so why? Will the Panaracers be too big/heavy for racing? Appreciate your help - Adam

last year we raced anything from dry, grassy cow pastures to muddy tracks in the snow

i'm using michelin cx mud up front & the slick on the rear.
Used in last years nc-subaru cx series without problem. Funny green color though.
