Thinking of this as a touring and commuting bike - said commute being a combination of city streets and fire roads.

Save your money and buy a Gunnar Crosshairs! Both the Gunnar and Salsa are made by the exact same people (Waterford) out of the same tubing (Reynolds 853) Difference is the Gunnar is $200-300 cheaper! All you get with the Salsa is the name, a gussett under the downtube (of questionable value) and 135mm rear wheel spacing (which prevents you from easily using any prebuilt road wheelset)
