|I was thinking about using tubulars this season. Can anyone recommend a tubular wheelset, your experiences and what tires you use? Thanks in advance!|

|I went with tubulars toward the end of last year and really found the ride to be noticeably more compliant. I got a new pair of Mavic Heliums really cheap and put Tufo tubulars on them. I'm no lightweight at 165 lbs, but I didn't have any problem with the Heliums, although I only used them in 3 or 4 races. I went with them because I saw a number of other people using them and after talking with them decided they could probably stand up to the abuse fairly well. The combination of the light wheels and the tubulars was very noticeable given all the accelerations that occur during a cross race.
If money is not an issue, then probably the way to go would be the route the Euro pros take. Most of them seem to ride some kind of deep dish tubular carbon rim, but they seem to have to ride through alot more mud then I've encountered in mid-atlantic racing. Maybe if you're in the northwest this would be worth it, if you could afford it. Otherwise I would go with the Heliums, they are pretty cheap now b/c I think Mavic has discontinued them.

|I was a convert to tubulars 2 years ago and can't go back.I've had great luck with Tufo's...get a set of 34's for rough and /or icy courses and 30 or 32's for faster courses. As far as wheels...hit Ebay...you'll find some deals. My faves are a set of Lew carbons....sweet and lite...but they make your wallet lite too|| |
