26" cross tires?(3 posts)

26" cross tires?SS_MB-7

I'm going to be using my MTB for the upcoming 'cross season, but I'll need tires. Other than the Kenda Kwick (1.7") and Continental Cross Country (1.5"), are there any other 26" cross tires?

You could measure the actual size of a Schwalbe Mud Shark light 1.5", maybe cut some excess knobs.

I know a guy who uses ancient-type Ritchey Z-max 1.7" (or lookalike), a brown tire. Exactly the maximum 35mm...

I tried to convince Tufo to make 26" cross tubular clinchers, but it isn't as simply as it seemed to me, and the market would not be very great for those tires.

Why not convert to larger wheels, with the brake-adapters I posted earlier?

Ritchey is making their Speedmax in a 1.4 this fall, so that would work.

I've used the Conti 1.5s and they work well on dirt courses. For grass courses I used a pair of Kendas, not sure the exact model; but they have a low tread profile with contigous center knobs.

I too tried to convince Tuffo to make a 26in cross tire; but they wouldn't do it :(
