I live and ride singletrack on the west coast (vancouver) Its all mean and gnarly and hard on the old body. Im building up a cyclocross bike starting with a mtn bike frame. Its got a bomber z2 front shock on it now and Im tempted to leave it on. I'll be using the bike for commuting 40mi. return and some singletrack ( I have a full suspension rig for most off road) I dont intend to race it-never heard of cyclocross racing in this neck of the woods. But Im wondering why everone seems to go with a rigid fork. Why not go for comfort?
What's the difference?Chris Zeller

Between this bike and a MTB? If you start with a MTB frame and have a MTB suspension fork.... it looks like a MTB to me. Are you adding skinny tires and drop bars? Are you adding sti or bar end shifters? I guess I'm just new here but it looks like a very blurry line between cyclocross and MTB to me.
