if not planning to race x would you get a cross bike in the same size as your road bike? why are x bikes normally sized smaller? seems like a longer top tube plus shorter stem would lighten up the front end leading to better cornering and less arm fatigue but at the expense of barrier portage.

Larger tire sizes on cross bikes lead to reduced standover clearance.
(higher top tube) So the frame needs to be sized a little smaller.
