Brake question for Crosscheck owners(3 posts)

Brake question for Crosscheck ownerspauly

Has anyone used a brake booster arch on the front (or back) of their Surly Crosscheck with good results? Current setup: Shimano (non-STI) levers and Avid Shorty 6 calipers. Under hard braking the fork shudders as if the Grim Reaper himself was passing through it. The back seems OK, but that's probably because I don't have as much braking power back there. I'm wondering if a Salsa booster (or one of the cheap Nasbar ones) will calm things down a bit. FWIW, the total weight of the bike, rider and gear is around 225lbs.

Sounds more like a problem with adjustmet, or a rim problem. I would check the rim to see if it is true, replace the pads and readjust the brakes. If this fails then I would consider a booster.
