Hi,

I just ordered a 2000 Kona Scandium Jake the Snake frame (or is it Major Jake?). I'm really excited about it. Does anyone have any pics of this bike? I am told it is black with silver lettering. Any input on this bike would be appreciated, and any suggestions on how to build it up. I can't wait to get it!
Thanks,

jenny

try Kona website: www.konaworld.com (if it's up)

I thought 2000 Majors were yellow with black decals, as shown here:

But that might have changed for 2001. Looks like regular Jake is silver with black decals:

Hi,

I guess it's a 2000 scandium frame, which looks different than the 2000 jake and the 01 major jake and the 01 jake the snake. Maybe I will just have to wait until the frame arrives. :(

I checked out the web sites you posted. Very cool write up by Bicycling mag! I saved it for reference on ways to build the bike up.

thanks,

jenny

It really depends on what type of riding you plan to do on how you want to build up the bike. For racing and more road type riding a double setup with STI shifters is nice. If you plan to use it more off-road a triple is handy with the added low gears of a MTB style cassette and rear derailer. many use bar end shifters with this type set up. Its all personal preference. I still love the looks I get when I blow by someone on the trail on my crossbike, What a rush :-)
