|Is there any reason why the following will NOT work:
Ultegra STI, triple crank, and front derailleur
+XT rear derailleur and cassette?
Oh, and can you put an XT cassette on an Ultegra hub, or do you need a MTB-specific rear hub and a 135mm frame?

|I am in the process of building a cyclocross bike with an Ultegra rear hub and an XT cassette. It fits fine. I started with an older 105 hub and it didn't fit. You will want to make sure that both are either 8 or 9 speed (don't mix). As far as the front back mix you want to use, it shouldn't make a difference. |

|8 speeds and 9 speeds mix fine. I have an 8 speed cassette on my 9 speed XT hub on my MTB and a 9 speed (Ultegra) cassette on a 8 speed 105 hub on my cross bike. I wonder if your old 105 hub was 7 speed?|| |
