there is a tiny gap between the headest cap and the top of the tube on my Trek 2300. I never noticed it before. Is is okay? It is less than a milimeter wide.

I purchased a new fram and it came with a Cane creek headset. I had to put it in so I called them about all the parts. It comes with s small shims that are designed to raise the cap off the frame. This is so the cap does not rub on the top of the headtube. I hope this is what you are talking about.

I'm an engineer with a 5500 with CK headset and wouldn't chance it as if it suddenly decides to go fully home, caused by road vibration etc, you'll have so much play in the headset you won't be able to control the bike. A millimeter is a lot for a headset. Is it worth the risk just save a little cash to get it put right?
