|i just bought a bike off of ebay (see post below!) and wanted to inspect the hub races. i have the campy hub manual and have managed to remove the locknut and the lock ring but can't figure out how to get the cone out. is there some trick to this...it seems pretty wedged in there!
ps - if i can get my camera to work (nothing technical has gone right for me this week!) i'll post a pic of where i am soon.

|I went to Campy's website, I'm a Campy owner but have never disassembled them. It apeears that after you loosen the lock ring on the left side, you use two 5 mm allen keys that fit when the skewer goes thru the axle and loosen the cones. One allen key in each side.

|but i have already done that and am on the next step...remove the "ring" which i have done and the "cone" which is where i am stuck (see pic below).

|well...that only took half an hour! anyway...here is a pic of where i am. the piece with the arrow pointing to it is, i assume, the cone and is what needs to come out next...but it seems locked in place and i don't know how to remove it.

|You should be able to gently push the axle out from that side. A gentle tap from a plastic tipped hammer might help but use care.
You can download the pdf schematic and instructions from the campagnolo.com site, 2004 front hub will work.

|found this piece of advice on another message board. i tried whacking it just with my hand and nothing budged... won't smacking it with a hammer damage the races?

|That split ring holds the race. It is a spring, and grabs the axle pretty good. Once things stay there for awhile, it doesn't just fall apart.
Tapping it with a hammer won't damage the race.

|thanks a million for everyone's help. i tapped it with a hammer and it came right apart. it has been one of those weeks where NOTHING has gone right and i could just see myself damaging the hub trying to get it apart...something has finaly gone well and things are looking up!
